Heifer International

Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen

Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen has been a symbol of hope and compassion in the Chelsea section of Manhattan since 1982. Housed in the landmark Church of the Holy Apostles, the Soup Kitchen serves over 1,000 hot nutritious meals on average each and every weekday, including holidays. Anyone who comes to our door is welcome – without question or qualification

Heifer International's mission is to work with communities to end hunger and poverty and care for the earth. By giving families a hand-up, not just a hand-out, we empower them to turn lives of hunger and poverty into self-reliance and hope.

With gifts of livestock and training, Heifer projects help families improve their nutrition and generate income in sustainable ways. We refer to our animal donations as "living loans" because in exchange for their livestock and training, families agree to give one of its animal's offspring to another family in need. It's called Passing on the Gift – a cornerstone of our mission that creates an ever-expanding network of hope and peace.

Sunday School

November 19th is the FALL COOKIE WALK held during Coffee Hour. We invite all the bakers in the parish to join our cause! All proceeds will be sent to Holy Apostles Episcopal of NYC for their Soup Kitchen Cookies will be sold for $5.00 a dozen or 50ȼ each.

NOTE: There will be no Sunday school November 26th, Thanksgiving weekend.

Our Christmas GIVING TREE will be up for three weeks in December, the 3rd, 10th , and 17th. This tree will have paper ornaments on it with wishes from the kiddos at the NJ Children’s Home. I want to thank Emily, Joseph & Olivia Mrazek for heading this much loved project. Please remember not to wrap the gifts. Donations of wrapping paper or gift bags are welcome. Make sure the paper ornament is attached to the gift and placed under the tree no later than the 17th .

December 10th is THE CHRISTMAS BRUNCH. For this event we partner with the ladies of the ECW. Please consider adding one of your delicious dishes to “the table”. All donations collected at this yummy coffee hour will be used to buy SHOPRITE Gift Cards. These cards are included in the gifts going to the families represented through THE GIVING TREE at the NJ Children’s Home.

December 17th, before the start of the 9:30 service, we’ll hold the annual CHRISTMAS Pageant.

There will be no Sunday school December 24th, but ALL children are reminded of the CHRISTMAS EVE FAMILY SERVICE that evening. It is beautiful way to start the countdown of the hours of THE BABY JESUS’ BIRTH.
Peace be with you. Love, Miss Di
